Join us for a 9-day Carpentries workshop series aimed at teaching participants the essential concepts, skills, and tools for R in RStudio, Python in Jupyter Notebook, an introduction to the Unix Shell, Version Control with Git, SQL, Tidy Data, and OpenRefine. This workshop is designed to empower researchers with the computing skills necessary for research analysis.
This workshop is free, and participants can register for individual session topics or the entire series.
Who can participate? All University of California students, staff, postdocs, and faculty are welcome to join.
Workshop Schedule/Location:
- Dates: September 9th – 20th, 2024 (Mon-Thurs and one Friday)
- Times: 8:30am – 12:30pm
- Location: Remote (via Zoom)
Workshop Curriculum:
- Sept 9 - Tidy Data: Best practices for data organization and working with data in spreadsheets.
- Sept 10 - Introduction to Unix Shell: Learn the basics of command line interface and navigating within files and directories.
- Sept 11 - Version Control with Git: Manage work, edit code, and collaborate on a team project in a repository.
- Sept 12 - SQL: Relational databases, data import, and basic SQL queries.
- Sept 16 & 17 - Introduction to Python: Basic coding, data access, and data analysis functions using Jupyter Notebook.
- Sept 18 & 19 - Introduction to R: Basic coding, data access, and data analysis functions using RStudio.
- Sept 20 - Open Refine: Clean, transform, and track changes to data.
